This is the progress so far on the Electric Cinema print. It is a night time print and I will make the light from the cinema entrance area cast strong diagonal shadows.
I have about three more layers to go on this. including the key block.
Pleased with the subtle colour shifts, need to think carefully about colour in the key block.
I'm working on two prints at the moment. This is one of them. It is a view from the Espresso Cafe on Moor St Station. At the risk of sounding like I've been sponsored, try the coffee, it's really, really good.
OK. The view uses the doorway of the cafe to frame the ironwork ceiling of the station. I've been looking to use this compositional device for a while. It is often used by Hiroshige and enables an inside-outside dynamic. In this print I will keep largely the same sepia hues outside and more greens and blues in the cafe.
This print goes back to my usual way of working - a key block first, in the form of an engraving. I will do some reduction. Once the station is finished and printed I will cut it all away and start on the cafe. That means all the cutting that you see on the plate at the moment will be cut away and lost forever. Hence the limited edition of 25 prints.
